    FLEXIBLE TV     July 2002

Just as it seems we have heard it all..... TV manufacturer Toshiba has announced it has developed a flexible LCD technology. The prototype is a 8.4 inch diagonal, low temperature, active matrix LCD that supports SVGA resolution. It is ultra slim at less then 0.4 millimeters which brings it in at 20 - 25 percent thinner then current polysilicon LCDs and the flexibility of the screen is said to increase its resistance to shock. The display can be flexed in all directions and bend to a form of a curve with a curve radius as high as 20 centimeters.

The first application is expected to be televisions with curved screens that can be used in information booths of trains and buses. Commercial products should be launched by 2004.
